Rachel has been making wood jewelry since 2019

My name is Rachel and I am the sole designer and maker here at RayJon Design. Here you will find handcrafted wood, leather, and natural stone adornments for your fingers, wrist, ears and neck.

I grew up in the country with a big family and learned how to work with my hands and use the materials around me at a young age. I love everything about the outdoors and love having a close connection with the natural world and all its beauty. I love foraging for wild mushrooms, berries, and herbs. I love observing animals and learning from them. I love it when I see humans caring for their beautiful home.

Making jewelry began when I wanted to purchase some wood jewelry. After looking around for some time and not finding what I was looking for, I decided to try to make some pieces for myself. My husband Pete, thought my first creations were really good, and with his support and tool expertise, we set up a little workshop for me in our garage so I could expend some of my creative energy.

Most of the wood I use for my jewelry is from left over wood cut offs from our family owned Wood Flooring Company that Pete and I own and operate together as a team. It feels extremely satisfying to rescue this beautiful wood from going to the landfill.

Overtime, I started incorporating leather and natural stone into my jewelry. Turquoise is my favorite natural stone to use even though it is by far the most expensive material I purchase. I have now come to appreciate this beautiful precious stone for its rare, one of a kind beauty and incorporate it whenever I can.

RayJon is a mesh of my name; Rachel Johnson - as you can see I have never been super creative with naming things but I’m just going to role with it.

Thank you for visiting my website and your interest in my work. I never would have imagined that people in different parts the world would be wearing things I’ve made with my hands.

From the Earth,

for the soul

Every material is considered when being added to my pieces. I do my best to research where the materials I do need to buy are coming from. Wherever possible I am checking for fair wages and work environments and purchase the bulk of my materials from nearby sources. While I cannot control everything, I try my best to leave the least amount of negative impact on this beautiful earth and its inhabitants.

Recycled and Rescued Wood

Most if not all of the wood I use in my jewelry is recycled or rescued.

Natural Stones

When buying stones, I make a special effort to verify a fair work environment at the places I purchase from.

Leather

While I do use natural leather derived from animals, I do my best to find ethical sources and use faux leather wherever I can.
